You are about to embark on a journey learning one of the most popular instruments on the planet. Through our lesson plans, course structure, and knowledge/experience, our goal is to teach you how to become fluent in playing your selected instrument - while also having fun!!! Our teachers are dedicated to customizing your lessons specifically for you - we guarantee that you will receive individual instruction that will move at your own pace and style!
Be sure to take a few moments to go over the information below as it covers some important information designed to make your lesson experience with us a great one.
WHAT DO I NEED TO HAVE FOR LESSONS EACH WEEK?
All of our teaching rooms are fully equipped with everything needed for lessons (chairs, music stands, audio equipment, amps, instrument cables, drum kit, pianos, flat screen monitors) so in addition to your instrument or drum sticks, here are some items you may wish to bring:
INSTRUMENTAL STUDENTS
With the exception of piano and drum students, all other students (guitar, banjo, bass, ukulele, violin, cello, flute, saxophone, and clarinet) must bring their own instrument to lessons each week. A few other things you may want to bring with you are:
1. picks, capo, metronome, tuner etc. if you have them
2. Songs on your phone/mobile device's playlist etc. that represents the style of music you like/want to learn.
VOICE STUDENTS
1. Any sheet music or song books you may have or want to work from
2. Songs on your phone/mobile device's playlist etc. that represents the style of music you like/want to learn.
NEW OR RETURNING TO LESSONS? HERE'S WHAT TO EXPECT:
Part of what your teacher will be doing in your first lesson is assessing your skills and knowledge re: your primary instrument/singing, music, and then getting you started on some specific activities to start building skills and also help you set some short and medium term playing goals.
DO I NEED A BOOK?
If you don’t already have a book your teacher will be able to recommend and get you started in the one that they think best fits your goals and interests. As a convenience for you we have lesson books in stock for you to purchase here OR you can order them from us HERE.
If you already have a method/instruction book feel free to bring it for your instructor to review and determine if it will fit your goals and interests.
BILLING
Our accounts manager has your student account set up. Depending on your start date, your first payment will either be for the full monthly amount ($141.00 for weekly 30 minute lessons + registration) or pro-rated for the number of lesson weeks remaining your starting month. For all subsequent months, tuition processes by the 16th of the month to secure your lesson appointment for the following month and is payable by auto billing at the regular half-hour (or hourly) rate. Any books or materials you may need that the teacher recommends can be purchased at your first lesson.
PLEASE NOTE: Rather than require semester minimums we break tuition into 12 equal monthly payments. MMA’s monthly tuition is based on 48 lesson weeks held throughout the calendar year and is not increased or decreased for long or short months.
We have taken out all the holidays and days we are closed and averaged the remaining lesson days out over the course of the year. So, most months you will have 4 lesson weeks, and some months you will have a BONUS MONTH where there are 5 lesson weeks that month. A few months you may only have 3 lesson weeks, but you are never paying for a day that Moscow Music Academy is "closed".
WE'RE HERE FOR YOU
If for any reason you ever have questions about your schedule (holidays, in-session dates, need to cancel) or have a question about payments, please contact the director or speak with one of MMA's office assistants. We'll have a welcome packet for you at your first lesson that also covers this information and more. Please plan to arrive about 5 minutes before your lesson to give us have enough time to answer any questions you might have. You will also receive a lesson/assignment notebook that your teacher will use at each lesson to write down any assignments or examples for your home practice.
If you need a new day and time, need to miss a lesson, or don’t feel your teacher or instrument is a good fit for you PLEASE BE SURE TO SEE OR TALK WITH OUR OFFICE STAFF or DIRECTOR so that they can help you. You can also find answers to most frequently asked questions on our website’s FAQ’s page as well as in this welcome packet.
